Should a runner (or joggler) donate blood

Today, I went to the blood donation center and gave a couple of pints. I used to give every 8 weeks, but I cut back after a doctor told me I shouldn’t.  Now, I give blood only twice a year.
My stats from today’s donation.
Blood Pressure : 108 / 74
Body Temp: 97.9 F
Pulse : [...]

Who else likes to run in terrible weather?

Imagine the scene.
The city shrouded in a grey haze, the sun feebly trying to break through. A half-inch (1cm) of light, powdery snow blankets the ground. The Google homepage weather says 9F (-12.8C). And the joggling schedule calls for a 16-mile workout.
My wife says, “You don’t have to go.”
But she knows I [...]

More joggling in the news

Hey fellow jogglers, jugglers, and runners.  There is an article running over at the Martlet (University of Victoria’s Independent Newspaper) all about the competitive world of joggling.  For the story, the author (Stephanie Wright) interviewed top jogglers Michal, Zach, and even yours truly.  It’s always fun when regular people take an interest in joggling.  That’s [...]

How much juggling practice do you need?

Everyone knows that “practice makes perfect”, but does it? According to this study by researchers at Stanford University, some practice could be a waste of time. They trained some macaque monkeys and showed that they didn’t get more consistent even after thousands of repetitions. Their conclusion was that while you can train [...]

Hump day juggling inspiration

YouTube is a great place to find videos of all sorts. There are literally thousands of juggling videos. Joggling enthusiasts can even find a joggling video.
And sure these juggling videos are cool but after awhile they start to look the same. However, there are still some creative jugglers who make something completely [...]

3 reasons to add breakfast to your joggling

In 2005, I consumed 144 donuts. Sugar dusted, custard filled confections were my favorites, but coconut encrusted ring donuts were great too.
Last year, I just stopped. The great donut nix of 2006 is what it was called. I mostly stopped eating breakfast except occasionally 2 pieces of half-toasted bread schmeared with Country [...]

Who wants to juggle and streak?

This article over at the Complete Running Network about people who have kept running streaks alive is inspiring. The longest active running streak is 14,011 days according to the US Running Streak Association. Wow! Currently, my joggling streak stands at 4 days. This is the longest active joggling streak of [...]

Mistakes to avoid when joggling indoors

The weather in Chicago in January is crummy. It’s grey, cold and windy. And by cold, I mean 14F (-9C). It’s like being shot at with a needle filled Uzi. Not pleasant. And while wearing some Under Armour skivvies, gloves and a hat on a weekend joggle is fine, during [...]

How to spit while joggling

I saw this post on The Final Sprint about the subject of snot and spit. It was interesting because I’ve never seen this subject in any other running resource. Here are some interesting facts from the article.

Snot and spit are composed of protein, water and electrolytes
Potassium and bicarbonate are about 6 and 3 [...]

Low stress training program for the Tampa Bay Marathon

The Tampa Bay marathon is on February 18th, and I’m all signed up to joggle it. This will be my 22nd marathon, half-way to the 44 marathon goal.
Do you need a marathon training program?
This marathon is different because I haven’t followed a training program. My marathon preparation is as follows.

Joggle as many days [...]
