The Great Midwest Relay - Hour 9+ - Joggling in the dark

Hour 9.
I just finished my first leg. 6.6 miles in 46 min. Not too bad but I felt awful.
It was darker than the inside of Mamouth Cave. There were times that the path disappeard under my feet. My only light was a green flicker from under my drenched cap. It [...]

The Great Midwest Relay - Hour 7 and 8 - Juggling and Running without balls

I’m up next. Unfortunately, I’ve lost a couple of my joggling bags!! I now have to run with a completely new set and they’re not even Gballz.
Oh well. I’ll do the best I can. It’s getting pretty dark (9:00). I’m wearing a green light and will be running [...]

The Great Midwest Relay- Hour 6 Finally in the race

Hour number 6 - We’re in the race
Michelle was the first person from our van to run. It was only 3 miles so we had to get to the hand-off area pretty quickly. The instructions are good but they aren’t quite perfect. For the second time we made a wrong turn. [...]

The Great Midwest Relay - hour number 4 Waiting with a Uke

Hour 4
After the great bowling outing it was time to wait, and wait and wait. There is a lot of waiting during these relay races.
I juggled a bit more just to keep fresh and put on my running clothes, black spandex shorts, white, dri-fit ‘We’ve Got Balls’ t-shirt, white cotton socks, a weathered DePaul [...]

The Great Midwest Relay - hour number 3 Bowling in WI

hour number 3
We finished lunch and made it to our first transition point. According to Van 1 we are in “last place”. Sounds like a bit of an exaggeration.
We didnt know what we were going to do until we saw the Lake Mills Lanes….Bowling! I’ve never run a race like this.
My first [...]

The Great Midwest Relay - hour number 2

hour number 2
While we wait in Mill Lake, we eat at Mulligan’s Mill of Joseph Megan’s. Six runners, six Miller Lite beers. Now this is a race a joggler can embrace. But only 1 for this juggling runner. I’ve gotta stay sharp for my 9 mile finale.
What does the anchor leg [...]

Great Midwest Relay - The race starts

The race starts.
First runner up is Lisa. She starts with a ‘We got Balls’ t-shirt, a contraband iPod and a pink runner skirt. She even held the Gballz as the race started.
We headed off to the 6th exchange stop. Now, the juggling runner gets to wait until about 9 PM. [...]
