Just when you think that exercise is always good medicine, some new study comes out to show that it’s not true for everyone. According to this report by the New York Times, the health of some people actually gets worse after doing exercise. Here’s the link to the study that was done by a variety of university researchers. Their conclusion is that about 10% of people tested had adverse responses to exercise.
So what are we to make about this? I don’t know.
It will not stop me from exercising and suggesting that other people exercise. But as people always say before beginning an exercise program, check with your doctor to ensure that it is safe to start. It’s unlikely that you are part of the 10% who may have a problem with exercise but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
There is lots of research to show that exercise is beneficial. I don’t think it’s time to give up on it just yet.
