Surprising running benefits of an injury

Yesterday I was pretty concerned about my back. I hurt it during softball on Sunday and it was (and is) extremely painful. It is difficult to bend over, twist, or even walk. I dreaded my run yesterday so was only going to go the minimum. However, when I got started I felt great. Immediately I decided I would go 3 miles instead. It really was a nice run. Then it occurred to me, perhaps there are some benefits to having a minor injury. Here are some of the positive things about my back injury.

Running benefits of an injury

1. Other injuries hurt less. The major benefit to having a pained back is that my plantar fasciitis doesn’t hurt much any more. I didn’t even notice it while walking around or joggling.

2. Improved form. With a hurt back, I was unable to slouch and had to keep a straight running form. This was better for my run and made it a bit easier.

3. Dont think about your running. The final benefit was that I didn’t think about how hot it was nor how tired I was getting due to running.

While getting injured sucks, it’s not all bad. And being an optimistic joggler is what I want to be.

Joggle on!
