At the start of every year I put together this 2012 goal list which articulates all I want to accomplish for the year. I’ve been doing this since 2003 accomplishing many of the things I list but not accomplishing many more.
I started monthly updates but missed a few. However, I have kept track of my goals and since this is the official half point of the year, I thought it would be fun to see where I am.
Overall
Well, I haven’t accomplished many of the things I want to accomplish but I have kept up with a number of my goals and activities. In the second half of the year, I’ve got to refocus on the accomplishments while continuing the daily health goals. Everything (except my lessened beer consumption) is still achievable.
Joggling goals
Health
These goals are done to improve (or maintain) my health which will increase my chances of living until 107 years old.
7000 pushups
7000 situps
Yoga 50 times
300 miles on bike
1500 miles running
Lose weight – 180 lbs
Drink less – 365 beers
Drink less soda – 365
Fasting 12 times
Vegetarian 75 days
Floss every day
Let’s go with the successes. I’ve done 5437 pushups, 4547 situps, flossed every day, and joggled every day. I also donated blood a couple of times which completes that goal.
On a number of these I’m pretty much where I need to be (or just a little shy). My joggling distance is 620 miles which is about 42% of the year total. Biking is at a mere 52 miles but with summer that will increase. I missed my fasting day in June but can make up for it later in the year.
I’m doing ok on the weight having lost 6 pounds for the year. I’m at 192 which is above my 180 target. For soda drinking I’m a bit ahead of myself but my goal is still achievable. I just need to cut down. Time to start drinking soda water again.
I haven’t done much yoga only 2 sessions. For some reason it bores me so I don’t keep it up.
On beer, I’m an utter failure having already drank 449 this year. Really need to cut down!
Overall, not too bad.
Accomplishments
Run 4 marathons
Run 100 mile ultra
2 Half Marathons
4 additional races
Joggling streak – 1 year
Joggler blog streak – 1 year
Hold handstand for 2 min
Juggling – Learn hat balance while juggling
Juggle 6 balls for over 1 min
In these areas, I haven’t made much progress.
I’ve scheduled to run 2 marathons so I need a couple more. Maybe Vegas in December?
I’ve toyed with the 100 mile ultra but am still hemming and hawing. Was thinking next year (when I’m 44) might be a good time to do it. But I still might do it.
I’ve already done a half marathon and a 10 miler so that counts. But I’ll probably do another half marathon in the fall.
I’ve done a 10 miler, a 5K, and two 10Ks. Looks like this goal is accomplished!
Joggling streak is still alive.
Joggling blog streak. I missed my first post in May, but only missed one. I’m saying this one still is achievable.
Hand stand…no progress
Hat balance…no progress
6 ball juggling…no progress
I really need to step up my activities to achieve these goals. Only half the year to get it done!

Beware of the Vegas Marathon! You need to check the runners comments from last year, it was quite the disaster.
You are going to need a lot of training to run a 100-miler, you would have a high probability of injury if you attempted it this year. A more reasonable goal would be a 50-miler by the end of the year with a possible 100-miler next year.
My running was weak for the first 4 months due to a few light injuries, but I’ve been running every day this summer and I’m now ahead of my mileage goal. I have about 10 races scheduled for the rest of the year.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll have to rethink that Vegas marathon. We’ll see how I feel.
For the 100 miler, I’ve already run a 50-miler & am pretty sure I could do that again. The 100 miler, I’m not so sure about. But if I started training now (significantly increasing mileage) I think I’d be ready by Sept / October. But that runs right into marathon season so maybe I won’t do it.
Congrats on your running efforts. I too took it easy the first couple of months trying to treat my plantar fasciitis. I’ve still got it but it’s not nearly as bad so I’m upping my miles.
I think you are being over optimistic about the 100-miler. The Western States runners (who know much more than me) take 6 months to go from 50-mile fitness to 100-mile. I would like to run a 100-miler someday, but the amount of training is daunting!
Have you thought about joggling back-to-back marathons? I’m hoping to the Tahoe Triple next year…
Perhaps overly optimistic. That’s one reason I’m most likely putting it off until next year. That, plus the memories of training for the 50 miler and how much pain I was in all the time. Ultra running hurts.
I’ve not thought of the back-to-back marathons. That might make a good challenge. The closest I’ve done is marathons within 3 weeks of each other. And I guess I did the Chicago marathon 2 weeks before doing the 50 miler.
Tahoe Triple? That sounds fun.
