Longest running streak in America hits 44 years

Well, I just had to write about this. It’s the intersection of a running streak and my favorite number 44!

Mark Covert just reached 44 years of a running streak with his 16,075th running day in a row. In that time he has averaged an impressive 9 miles a day! Unbelievable.

Let’s compare streaks.

Covert:
Date started – July 23, 1968 (before I was born)

Romanowski:
Date started – November 18, 2008

Covert:
Running streak days – 16,075

Romanowski:
Joggling streak days – 1346

Covert:
Running streak distance – 150,207 miles

Romanowski:
Running streak distance – 5,093 miles

So, it looks like I only need 40 years and about 145,000 miles to catch up. No problem. That will put me at about 83 years old but it seems reasonable. And I’ll do it joggling. I wonder if Andy Swan will still be joggling.

Here’s a video of Covert discussing his 44 year streak.

Congratulations Mark!!

Man, that’s one “covert” operation! Well, more like overt operation :) That’s an impressive feat.
