What are the odds of living until 100?

I was reading this interesting article in National Geographic which reviewed the latest research on centenarians (people who live until at least 100 years old) and was pleased to learn that the odds of living to 100 are 1 in 6000.  While those aren’t great odds, they do not sound unreasonable.

I’m one in 6000 aren’t I?

Another interesting thing is that people who have the genes to live until 100 also seem to live pretty much disease free until the end of their lives.  So, the prospect of me joggling that marathon when I turn 100 is not out of the question.

Joggle on.
