The end of the year is always a busy time for me. I always set these goals and then scramble during the month of December to finish anything that I can.
For some goals finishing is impossible but for others, I can cram to get it done.
Here was a list of my physical fitness related goals for 2009 and how close I came to accomplishing it.
2009 Joggling Goals
Completed
1. Joggle every day.
2. Juggle every day.
3. Run 1400 miles. (Revised from 1700)
4. Do 8000 pushups (finished >8300)
5. Do 6000 situps
Close but not quite
1. Joggle 4 marathons (only did 3)
2. Qualify for Boston (missed by 39 seconds)
Not even close
1. Do yoga 200 times (only did 13)
2. Get to 180 lbs (current weight 194)
3. Joggle 100 miler (abandoned early in year)
So, next year I’ll have to come up with a better plan to accomplish those goals I missed.
2009 Highlights
* There were many great moments this year. First, I set PRs in 3 race distances, the 10 miler (1:11), the half marathon (1:38) and the marathon (3:21).
* I also got to participate on a great relay team in the River to River relay.
* I traveled to many places including Las Vegas for the Red Rock Canyon marathon, South Bend for the Sunburst marathon and Philadelphia for the marathon.
* The Philly marathon was particularly fun because I got to meet and hang out with fellow jogglers Joe Salter and Barry Goldmeier. That was lots of fun.
* In 2009, I joggled in all of the following states.
Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia, Missouri, Michigan, Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania
* I continued the streak joggling at least 1.5 miles every day. The total distance of the streak is ~1535 miles and as of this writing is 406 days. During the streak, I have averaged 3.76 miles a day

It was a great year for joggling! Had a good time in Philly at the marathon. Congrats on your achievements, and I look forward to 2010 and what it brings.

I had two main running goals for 2009. One was to run a good half-marathon and the other was to get back under 20 minutes for a 5K. I ended up missing my target half-marathon on Thanksgiving due to an upper respiratory infection that put me out of action for over 2 weeks. However I pulled off my second goal with 10 hours to spare by running a 19:45 5K at the Gator Bowl 5K in the afternoon on 12/31.
The recent threads on joggling have me setting a goal of running at least 1 local 5K while joggling this year. I might have to do more depending on how that goes.
@George – Great job on doing a sub-20 and just under the wire. I’m going to make it a goal of mine to break the 20 mark in a 5K too this year. Haven’t done that since 2004. Let me know how the 5K joggling experience goes for you.
@Peter – Impressive mileage! I still am amazed you can do 4-ball joggling. The timing just doesn’t work right for me. I’ll have to practice a bit more.
@Joe – Looking forward to hearing your joggling adventures & accomplishments in 2010.
