Six ball juggling is about my limit. I’ve flashed 7 before but haven’t put much time into it. I have put some time into juggling six and when I go to Florida in a couple weeks, I will be putting some serious 6 ball juggling practice time in.

When I do that, I’m going to follow some of the tips in this excellent 6-ball tutorial by Steve.

While reading through my latest issue of Juggle magazine, I saw that it was the last one they planned on producing. It seems membership has been dwindling and costs have been getting too high.

Too bad but it makes sense. Magazines are just becoming really expensive and ad revenues aren’t keeping up with costs.

On the plus side, this may prompt the IJA to do something about improving their web presence. Here is their first attempt.

Juggle Ezine

I hope it succeeds. Although, the fact that it hasn’t been updated in a month is a little disconcerting.

To become a joggler you have to learn to juggle.  Here is an excellent video that shows you just how to do that.

I always like to report on juggling related records. This one is an interesting one that will be tough to beat. Mark Hanson claims to have broken the world record for the most number of throws juggling three balls in one minute.

The previous record was 339 throws (and catches). Mark’s record is about 420. It’s not an official record as he still has to send video evidence and all the other stuff that Guiness requires. However, in 6 to 8 weeks (or 1 year as in the case of my record) he should have his record verified.

Now, I wonder how many I can do. Let me try…

Ok, my first try I did 285. Given some practice I’m certain I could break the old record. Not certain I could break the new one though. How about you?

While the best way to get better at juggling is to pick up some bean bags and juggle, you can also improve your hand eye coordination with video games.

Here’s a juggling video game that is really challenging (and addicting if you’re not careful).

The next time I’m on a golf course, I’m going to have to try that trick.

There’s a game that jugglers play called Combat. In it, you attempt to make another juggler miss while not missing yourself. Here is a juggling flash mob that broke out in Germany. They are playing Combat. It looks really fun.

I’m a big fan of Penn and Teller.  In fact, these guys would be the only celebrities I could think of who I ever want to meet in person.  Indeed, I did actually run into Penn in a restaurant in New York and even said “Hello”.  It was a nice moment.

Anyway, here is a video clip which demonstrates that the impressive trick of juggling flaming torches isn’t nearly as dangerous as it seems.  If you can juggle clubs, then you can juggle torches.  When you light them on fire, the audience is much more impressed.

It has always amused me how people’s responses to juggling tricks are in no way related to how difficult or dangerous the trick is.  The simplest things are often the most entertaining.

When I was in grade school I went through a phase of being obsessed with the Rubik’s cube. I think my personal record was 102 seconds. The system I learned of solving it was pretty slow and I’m sure there are faster ones. In fact, I think you can solve the Rubik’s cube in 41 moves no matter what the setup.

Anyway, I know I juggled a Rubik’s cube every so often but I never thought of solving it while juggling. Well, David Calvo did. Here he does it in under a minute.

Perhaps I might try this trick. Have any of you tried?

Everyone is born with the ability to run. There isn’t much you have to do to teach people. However, no one is born with the inherent ability to juggle. That you have to learn.

Fortunately, Coach Bob gives a great bit of instruction on how to do it. And he’s amusing too.
