Average Joggler in Time Out Chicago

With the Chicago Marathon coming up soon, the local media seeks stories about unique marathon runners. This week Time Out Chicago was kind enough to include a picture of this average joggler in an article. You can see it here. See if you can match the times to the different runners. [...]

Soggy Chicago Half Marathon Joggling Report

While perusing the running blog RSS feeds, this race report by Audry about the Banco Popular Chicago Half Marathon reminded me that I still hadn’t finished mine. Here it is.
One word…WET.
To the Starting Line
A rain came to Chicago that literally stayed for 2 days. It hadn’t rained that much in over 100 years. [...]

FIRST Marathon Training Assessment

While reading the excellent Half-Fast running blog, I noticed that Vanilla was going to try the FIRST marathon training program.  This is a program in which you get to “run less often and still get faster”.  It’s the 3-day a week marathon training program.  Great concept.
I decided to give it a go this year to [...]

What Makes a Race Your Favorite

After reading Randy’s glowing report about the Chickamauga Battlefield marathon, it made me think about my favorite marathon and why.
Having done 23, my favorite marathon is the Chicago Marathon. In this joggler’s opinion, it is the best marathon you can do particularly if you are a first-timer. Here are my top 7 reasons [...]

Joggling Takes Over the Airways

Well, perhaps “takes over” is a bit of a stretch but there have been a few media outlets that were interested enough in the recent 50-mile joggling world record that they did some interviews.
Joggling on TV
I have my sister to thank for setting this one up. She happened to know someone at the TV [...]

Lakefront 50 miler - joggling epilogue

Last post on this race, I promise.
I just got the results. The winner of this race did it in a blazing 5:31!! That’s around a 6:40 pace which is what I can do in a 5K. Ridiculous. It turns out I finished 16th out of 74 finishers with an “official” time [...]

There Is A New Joggling 50-mile Record

I’m tired so I’ll just post the time.
8:23:42
Beat the old record by almost half an hour.  It was a great race and I made it the whole distance without walking and with only 4 drops.  The wind off the lake was tough at some points.
More later.  Now, I’m going to veg out.
Joggle on.

50 Mile Joggling Record Try Tomorrow

The biggest race of my running season will be tomorrow. It will be my first ultra marathon and hopefully a successful breaking of the current 50-mile joggling record of 8:52:07. It was set in 1989 by the most prolific world record setter in the world, Ashrita Furman.
I’m feeling pretty good about my chances. [...]

5 Key Preparations Before Running a Big Race

So, tomorrow is the 50-mile joggling world record attempt and you might be wondering how a joggler prepares. Here are the a few things to consider when preparing for a big race.
5 Key Preparations A Week Before A Big Race
1. Tapering. You need to run less before a big race. [...]

Chicago Marathon Outrage With a Sense of Humor

You’ve all no-doubt read the stories about the unfortunate turn of events at this year’s Chicago Marathon. While it was one of the greatest finishes in marathon history, it will more likely be remembered as the one that got canceled.
This cancellation led to a slew of criticism about the race.  Some people are [...]
