Chicago marathon winner decides to sue

I love the Chicago Marathon and will be joggling it for the 10th time this year.  While it is pretty annoying it sold out so fast this year, it doesn’t bother me too much since I was lucky enough to get in.    Others weren’t so lucky.marathon fall

Here’s a story that was interesting.  Remember the guy who won last year?  He had that dramatic fall just as he crossed the finish line.  Well, it turns out he is suing the organizers of the Chicago Marathon.

This just doesn’t seem right to me.  It is unfortunate that he gets headaches now, but why is it the marathon organizer’s fault that he slipped?  You can’t hold people responsible for the weather right?

On the plus side, he’s still coming back to the Chicago Marathon defend his title.  And I will be defending my Chicago Marathon joggling title too.  Haven’t been beaten here yet.

  1. I was kinda surprised when he initially said he wouldn’t sue as i thought he’d have a good case. I can understand if he had slipped on the road that he probably wouldn’t have a case, but he slipped on one of those plasticy advertising things which was specifically put there by the organizers. if it was just a piece of regular smooth plastic, that’s just an accident waiting to happen on a wet day. The organizers should have known and were possibly negligent. If the plasticy thing was rough though and had a similar techture to timing mats (i.e. rough) then he probably wouldn’t have a case. Just my two cents.

  2. Because this is AMERICA!!! While he may be a winner in the marathon, he is a loser in real life! LOL. No doubt some scum bag lawyer talked him into. It’s all about the money.

  3. Well, you do make a pretty good point. I guess I figured everyone involved would do the right thing. It is pretty stupid of the organizers to put something down which people might slip on.
