Here’s a story about joggler Chris Essick and his experiences with joggling. He is the current world record holder for the 400 meter joggling distance (56.9 seconds) and is still joggling. He and his mentor Albert Lucas are trying to get
joggling into the upcoming summer Olympics.
It’s an interesting article and Essick is a nice guy. We joggled against each other and were on a relay team in the 2008 IJA Joggling Championships. He’s fast too!
The only thing that is not quite right is the claim that joggling was an Olympic sport in 1932. Near as I can figure, there is no evidence that this is true. See this write-up by Greg Phillips who looked into the subject.
But I’d be delighted if joggling made it into the Olympics!

Since baseball has been taken out of the Olympics due to lack of popularity (outside of the US), joggling probably won’t make it either. Although I hear it is the sport of the future.
It IS the sport of the future!
“Professional jogglers are allowed to pick up their balls and continue the race.” There are professional jogglers? Have you given much thought to turning pro Perry? Will pros be allowed in the Olympics, or only amateurs? Are amateur jogglers not allowed to pick up their balls and continue the race? So many questions!
@George – I would love to turn pro but wouldn’t want to jeopardize my amateur status for qualifying for the Olympics. lol
