Exercise is Crucial for Staying Mentally Sharp

There was a fascinating article over at Scientific American about the connection between your brain fitness and physical fitness. Brain

Essentially, the article claims that physical exercise is just as important to keeping your brain sharp as mental exercises. So, if you aren’t keeping physically active (such as daily joggling), your brain might be suffering.

“Old minds are like old horses; you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order.” -John Adams

They point out a few studies showing a link such as one that demonstrated women who walked every day lowered their risk for cognitive decline by 30%. They also reported on a study that showed exercise led to better memory abilities as people aged.

They conclude that there is still much to learn but I think it is safe to say.

If you want to keep your mind in tip-top working order, you should do some kind of aerobic exercise. And with it’s proven brain building power, joggling may be the perfect exercise
