Joggler Journal – Running Streak Day 517

by Average Joggler on 04/18/2010

Day 517 of a joggling streak which will last at least 1001 days in a row.

Summary: After a 13 mile joggle yesterday, I took it a little easier today going only 3 miles. I plan to cut back on miles this week because the Nashville marathon is less than a week away. I still can’t believe I’ve got a marathon coming up. This will be the least trained I’ve been for a marathon in over 10 years. Earlier in my running career, my marathon training was never too good. In fact, the longest run I ever did before running a marathon was 13.1 miles. This was a half marathon race. The longest training run I did before my first marathon was an 11 mile run. I finished that marathon in 4:02. I walked much of the 23rd and 24th miles. I never seriously trained for a marathon until 2003.

Guess my experience shows that people probably train more for marathons than they really need to (at least to finish). But it could just be that I’m genetically blessed to be able to run a long time without suitable training.

We’ll see how it goes next weekend.
