Joggling Blog Update

by Average Joggler on 06/28/2010

I’ve been pretty bad recently about posting information about joggling. Sorry. There is another project I’m working on about cosmetic science that has had me distracted. But fear not, I have continued my joggling streak and am still as enthusiastic as ever about joggling.

Running Streak update

The running and juggling streak is now up to 587 days. In that time I’ve joggled 2171 miles, spent >295 hours doing it, and have gone through 2 sets of joggling bean bags & 5 pairs of shoes.

Whew!

Overall, I feel good and the daily running hasn’t seemed to hurt me one bit. However, lately I’ve been feeling a little slow. My recent races (the triathlon and the 10 miler) have not been great. My daily runs haven’t been so fast either. I’m not really sure why as my mileage is down mostly. Perhaps it’s the lack of any specific goal. I want to qualify for Boston during the Chicago Marathon this year, but I don’t start serious training for that for another week or so. I’m hoping that will improve my running.

Getting Bigger

Perhaps one of the reasons I haven’t been running as fast is because I weigh a bit more than usual. I’m pushing 198 these days when I used to be around 190 lbs. A truism of running is that the bigger you are the slower you go. I’ve made some half-hearted efforts to lose some weight but they haven’t been terribly successful. The biggest problem with these efforts is that I have to significantly change the way I eat and that has proven difficult. I’m just not that good of a planner when it comes to eating. Free food is difficult for me to pass.

However, when my marathon training starts, I’ll also start my food training. Hopefully, that will be a lifestyle change that will “stick”.

Future plans

This summer I’ve got a few joggling races planned including a half marathon, a 10 miler, and the marathon in the fall. I’ll also add a few 5Ks just to get my speed going and because they are fun. I still haven’t figured out what 100 miler I will do but soon I’ll figure that out too.

As of tomorrow, I’ve only got 24,242 days left to live and if I’m going to accomplish things I want to accomplish, I better get moving!

Joggle on!
