Should You Be Eating More Fish?

by Average Joggler on 09/04/2009

If you want to live a long life (say live to 107 or so) you’ll want to exercise daily and also might want to add more fish to your diet. fishjugglingThis blog is all about encouraging people to exercise more and we consider joggling to be an excellent option.

But we also like to encourage people to eat better. Knowing what to eat is a bit more difficult however as there are so many options.

Fish Eating Research

This new piece of research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology suggests that eating fish high in omega-3 fatty acids helps reduce your chances of having a heart attack. Their suggestion is that you should be consuming 500 mg daily of omega-3 fish oil.

Now, this is an interesting suggestion but you need to maintain a skeptical view of all these studies. They really don’t know whether 500 mg is the right amount. It could be more, it could be less. There are also studies that say there is not as much of an effect as has been suggested. Certainly, more research will be done.

But you don’t have to wait for all the research to be done. There is enough data that suggests eating more fish is good for you so adding more fish to your diet is probably a great idea.

I know I’m going to have salmon tonight. How about you?
