Happy New Year!!

I know I just did a post on my running / joggling goals for 2009 but you might be interested in my other goals. Here is the list of 81 goals I tried to accomplish in 2009 and how I did.

Grade

Overall, I give myself a B-

I accomplished a few things, but there were a bunch in which I made no progress at all.

Here is how I did.

Success!

Hurray! Of the 81 goals I set out to accomplish, I completed 26 or 32%. Not great, but not too bad either.

Made significant progress

I finished more than half on 7 goals. I feel good about all these except the one about planning a trip. I’m taking a little credit but mostly, I failed in the spirit of this one.

Sketchy at best

27 of the 81 were not even half complete. On some of these, I was just unable to succeed (e.g. winning money at poker). On most, I just forgot I was going to do them. Then on a bunch of them, I just lost interest. The ones I’m most disappointed in were things like planning dates, sending my wife flowers/presents, and sending birthday cards to people. I do make it a point to send birthday FB wishes to everyone but it’s not quite the same.

8.3% complete – Plan 12 dates – planned one. others scheduled.
8.3% complete – Learn 12 new magic tricks – learned one new card trick
6.5% complete – Yoga 200 times – only 13 yoga sessions this year. Gotta get better
5% complete – Send birthday cards to F&F – Made list. Now just need to take action
5% complete – Make friends in >50 countries – need to review current list – made 4 online
5% complete – Make 6 inventions that solve problems – Brainstormed about 20 ideas

5% complete – Inspire 6 people to run a race – found 2 candidates for running races
5% complete – Improve pool game – play nearly everyday but haven’t measured it
5% complete – Get friends in each state – need to review current friend list
5% complete – Create a game – Brainstormed about 12 game ideas
3.3% complete – Create 30 BBrains videos – Finished 1

Fail!

And on 22 of the 81, I was a complete failure. Some were beyond my control (e.g. qualifying for Boston, winning kickball or Fantasy Baseball) so I don’t take it too hard. Others, I just forgot about. Still other things were just too discordant with my character that I wasn’t able to change. Oh well, I’ll carry them over to next year.

0% complete – Win kickball championship – Lost
0% complete – Win Fantasy Baseball league – came in fifth place
0% complete – Win a pool tournament – Didn’t even play in one

0% complete – Participate in 2 activities with mom – no progress (although we recorded a song together)
0% complete – Participate in 2 activities with dad – no progress
0% complete – Learn 600 Spanish words – forgot about this one
0% complete – Handstands – hold for 2 min – didn’t start practicing yet
0% complete – Complete a triathlon – Didn’t do it
0% complete – Buy a new place

0% complete – Create 6 audio stories

194 lbs – Weight loss – weigh <180 – Went up and down but ended exactly where I started.

Looking Forward

So now I get to work on my 2010 goals. I’m probably going to cut back a bit as 81 is a bit much. Also, many of these don’t really qualify as “goals”. Some are challenges or wishes or something. This is going to take a little work.

How did you do on your ’09 goals or resolutions? Got any for 2010?
