There are more than a few barefoot jogglers out there but I’ve only tried it while running on a beach. I don’t know why I haven’t embraced barefoot joggling, it appeals to me on many levels (inexpensive, scientifically backed, quirky, etc). I just imagine it is
going to hurt my feet too much.
But if you are game to try barefoot running, here is an excellent compilation barefoot running article that tells all about why and how to do it.
Have you got any barefoot joggling tips for a beginner? Leave a comment below.

I would strongly suggest learning to run with good technique prior to taking up barefoot running. Otherwise you are just setting yourself up for injuries. Since I am a Pose Running instructor, I suggest Pose Running Technique.
I see a lot of people running barefoot, and in Vibrams, who are heal striking, and those people are very likely to be injured, back in running shoes, or both very soon.
Great point Ken! Heel striking barefoot or even in Vibrams is not a good idea.
Well, actually, running barefoot will quickly point out the flaws in your technique. The key is not to over do it so that you end up hurting yourself. I did a little barefoot running in socks on the treadmill.
Wes, thanks for pointing out that. Someone show me someone who heelstrikes more than once while barefoot running… Your body will definitely not want to heel strike while going completely barefoot! Most experienced barefoot runners recommend learning good form by going completely barefoot on hard surfaces because it teaches you to land softly and have shorter strides/bent leg/forefoot and midfoot strike. Then, gradually incorporate Vibrams, flats, or other minimalist shoes after you’ve learned good form.
Perry-if you aren’t comfortable going completely barefoot while running, then try incorporating a little Vibram shoe short runs or walking. Walk barefoot around the house more often (walking in socks gives you the same benefit, since I know you prefer something over your feet) and your foot muscles will strengthen which will help posture, lower back issues, balance, and running form. Many people use Vibrams or barefoot running as a training tool, and not full fledged devotees. Track teams, basketball teams, and other runners/athletes are recognizing the benefits of barefoot training.
