There was an interesting bit of research that I came across about the reason why Americans are fatter than they were in the 1970s. The answer…we eat a lot more.
Calories Burned
It was commonly believed that weight increases were the result of increased food intake plus decreased activity. But scientists have shown that all our weight gain can be explained by our bigger appetites. Using national food supply data from the 1970’s and 2000’s, they were able to determine that the number of increased calories more than explains the increased pounds. They found that it was true of both adults and children.
Eat less
So, if you want to lose weight try eating less. In the 1970’s American’s ate 350 calories per day less than they do now. Exercise, like joggling, can help burn calories but less eating is the real key. Of course, if you’re going to eat less you should focus on eating real foods that are filled with vitamins and minerals.
Why Stay Fit
Staying fit helps me accomplish a few of my personal goals including…
1. Live until 107 years
2. Completing 44 marathons
3. Doing 10,000 pushups
4. Joggling for 1000 days in a row
If you want to achieve your personal goals, there’s no doubt that staying fit will help you get there.

Think of how much more food there would be an what would happen to food prices if we ate the right amounts? Food for thought
Wes – I was just talking to my wife about this the other day. I opined that it’s our economic duty to be obese. If everyone ate the right amount of food, people would eat less, food producers would sell less, and the entire system would fall into a big recession. And what would happen to the health care system in a country of healthy people?
We have to be fat to keep our economy going.
How time flies.
Feels like yesterday you had a writeup about restarting your joggling streak.
Where would you be if did not retire on day 444?
At about 886 days…darn.
