Will You Live to 107 Years?

by Average Joggler on 08/18/2009

Regular readers of this blog know of my goal to live to 107. So I’m always looking for bits of science that will provide strategies and lifestyle choices that will help me get there. Well, here’s an interesting article published on MSNBC which shows different Cinncinati jugglercharacteristics of the long-lived. The best one…running!

12 Habits of Centenarians

How many of these do you do?

1. Life of the party - less likely to develop dementia
2. Run 40 minutes a day - and IMHO joggling is even better
3. Eat more fiber – reduce your heart disease risk by 17%
4. Feel younger - if you feel younger than you are, your immune system gets a boost
5. Embrace technology - keeps you mentally spry
6. Late menopause - I can’t relate
7. Eat fewer, better calories - Guess I should cut out the sodas & candy bars
8. Have babies later in life - Applies more to women
9. Have an efficient heart beat – 60 bpm or less is good for longevity
10. Don’t smoke – this one’s pretty obvious
11. Get a flat stomach – this applies more to women
12. Keep up your vitamin D levels – most Americans don’t get enough

There you have it joggling fans. 12 things you can do (or 8 if you’re a guy) to help you live to 107 and beyond. I already follow 6 of them and am working on the other two.

How about you? How many of you want to live to >100 anyway?

I’ll settle for 105 years, 107 just seems too long :)

I hope to live into my 90′s, but whatever age I live to I know I am really putting a lot of living and joggling into those years. As I age, I realize the truth in the quip “it’s not the number of breaths you take in life that counts, but the number of moments in life that take your breath away.” Life is short, it goes by quick, I try to be grateful for every experience and opportunity-b/c like my H.S. teacher said “some people never get on the boat” in life and when they become old they realize they forgot to get on the boat and live each moment and day to its fullest.

50!? That’s less than 3600 days away for me. No way!

My life spreadsheet says I’ve got 24,566 days left to live and I’m going to joggle as many of them as I can.

But I do like the idea of an ultra Ironman.

I figure it will take me a number of years to perfect joggling, so I hope to live well into my hundreds. There’s a lot of territory left to cover.
