Weekend recap – 34 miles and a round of golf
Check out the Latest News on Just Your Average Joggler. Just completed the Chicago Marathon.
I was scheduled to do 40 and I made it 34. On Friday I ran 2 sessions, one for 5 miles and one for 7 miles. I felt pretty good that day. On Saturday I opted to make it my long run day. Although it was hot and I was a bit slow, I joggled for 18 plus miles in just under 2 and a half hours. I was sore the entire rest of the day. Then on Sunday I got a mere 4 miles in before going to play a round of golf. It’s been a while since I’ve run that far in such a short amount of time. But I’m behind in my training. I’ve got to step it up if I even will have a chance to keep up with the world class jogglers that will be running in Toronto the September.
Of all the days running, Saturday was my favorite. I went at a time when all the other runners were out. People are so supportive when they see you running. They also were quite interested in the joggling.
I really love joggling. It is such a great activity. It’s funny that even though I’ve been running for nearly 14 years, I didn’t really start liking it until 2 years ago. At first, I started running to exercise my dog and stay in shape. 15 minutes a day was all I would do. I did a 5K and then the same year decided to do the marathon. Then I thought it would be funny to do 44 marathons, so that’s what I started doing. However, I really didn’t much like running. I never wanted to go for more than 15 minutes a day.
But perhaps age and hours logged got me hooked on this running thing. After all these years, I finally like it. I like every mile even if they are painful like this morning. I take a certain pride in the fact that I can keep up with people half my age on a basketball court or softball field. And most of the people my age are ready to take a break hours before I’m ready. I don’t ever want to stop running and especially don’t want to stop joggling. If you ever start joggling yourself, the same obession might happen to you.
