What Do You Think About the Day Before a Marathon

Please pardon the following self-indulgent joggling post.  I’m just feeling a bit anxious about tomorrow’s race and writing is a good distraction.  Plus, it may be comforting to other runners to know that even after dozens of races, a veteran joggler still gets nervous.

Historical Review

Tomorrow will be the 11th time doing the Chicago Marathon and my 24th marathon overall.  I don’t mention this to brag, but it’s what I’ve spent many moments in the last few weeks thinking about.  I keep asking myself “now what number marathon is this?”  Then I go through the list.

Chicago 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007
London 2008
Tampa Bay 2007
Toronto 2006
Madison  2006
New York 2005
Lakefront Chicago marathon 2005
San Diego 2004
Arizona 2004, 2005
Cleveland  2003
Cincinnati Flying Pig  2002
Twin Cities 2002
Nashville 2001
Milwaukee  2001

Ok, it turns out this will be my 25th marathon, not my 24th.  I’m starting to lose track.  I should go through and write down all my times.  Maybe another day.

Next up, I will review the article I wrote on the 25 things you need for a marathon.

Now, I will play a little ukulele music.  See this video for an example.

Finally, I’m going to go to the store with my wife.  She’s been kind enough to offer to make dinner and we need to get some supplies.  It will be good to get out of the house.

Ok.  Marathon tomorrow.

Goal:  3:15 – 3:20

Wish me luck.
